Read the advice Sean gave me on California mortgages
My good friend Sean has been working in California in a mortgage bank for many years. He likes his job and he loves living in California. He has one of their California mortgages and is happy with it. So when my wife and I moved to California and needed to purchase a property, our first call was Sean. Listen mate, there are a lot of very different California mortgages out there and they can get confusing. So when you start looking at all the mortgages, make sure you are sitting with someone who is not being evasive and explains all the different options available to you, clearly. If someone starts fobbing you off and not being clear about things, go check out other California mortgages as that is not the way reputable banks and mortgage brokers work. I thanked him for the helpful advice and spoke to the mortgage people in my area.
What to watch out for with California mortgages
Some of the things Sean told me to look out for were liability and penalties if I was to pay off the mortgage earlier than the 20 years I was taking it for. What he suggested (that you could do with some of the California mortgages on offer) was to take a slightly higher monthly repayment and therefore not have the penalty if we were able to pay off the mortgage earlier. That made sense to me so we picked that. Remember there are a lot of California mortgages out there and some of them are good, but make sure everything is explained in easy terms for you.
